The storm continues. Pretty much with the same conditions and strength reported in our last update.
Winds of up to 65 mph, (with stronger gusts), heavy rainfall, threat of costal and land floods, strong rip tides and currents.
The National Hurricane Centre describes
the storm as “hesitating” over Cabo - saying it has not moved much in the last
couple of hours.
Here’s what has been happening this afternoon:
Power – many neighbourhoods have
either completely lost power. Or have intermittent power.
Shelters - at last count, 1950 people had sought refuge in the 12
shelter across Los Cabos
Airports – both Cabo San Lucas
and San Jose International Airports closed from 2pm today. Over 80 international
flights have been cancelled. La Paz Airport closed at 6pm.
Rainfall – At 12.00 noon today San Jose had already had 233mm of rainfall. This is higher than the yearly
average rainfall of 216 mm. Cabo San
Lucas registered 65.7mm, rain, about a third of its annual rainfall average of 195.7
mm. And rain will continue tonight
through Friday.
Ports - There are 823 boats
sheltered in the port of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Both ports remain
closed.
Tourists – hotels are at 52%
occupancy, and looking after the 20, 000 tourists that are currently visiting. The Municipal Director of Tourism in Los
Cabos said-
Accidents - So far, no accidents have been reported, But Police advise against driving unless absolutely necessary.
